Australian Diamonds mid-courter Chelsea Pitman will spend the next few weeks on the sideline after receiving some good news that her knee injury, suffered on the weekend, isn’t as serious as first feared.
The Queensland Firebirds today confirming that Pitman sustained a minor knee injury in Sunday’s 54-49 loss to the NSW Swifts, and will be back on court in a matter of weeks.
Pitman suffered the injury in the opening minutes of the game and while it appeared serious, further tests reveal there is no structural damage to her knee and she will be back on court soon.
Pitman said she was extremely happy with the results and was looking forward to making a full recovery and getting back on court.
“While it’s disappointing to be sidelined for a number of matches, when compared to missing an entire season, I am happy with the alternative,” she said.
“I plan on doing everything I can to get back on court as soon as possible.”
A temporary replacement is being sourced for this weekend’s match and will be announced in due course.
The Mission Queensland Firebirds will take on Melbourne Vixens this Sunday at Hisense Arena before returning home on Sunday, May 6 to take on the Northern Mystics at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.
