Australian Test veteran Catherine Cox has been handed the captaincy of the West Coast Fever for the 2012 ANZ Championship.

Cox, with 98-Test caps to her name, is the Fever’s most experienced campaigner after moving west from the NSW Swifts during the off-season.

"It is certainly an honour," Cox told The West Australian.

"Coming from a different State and to be given the job is fantastic.”

The 35-year old is one of seven new faces joining the Fever for season 2012, with only five players returning for the new year under new coach Norma Plummer.

The shooter is no stranger to the leadership position; she captained the Swifts from the league’s inception in 2008 and most recently stepped into the role for the Australian Diamonds after Natalie von Bertouch was injured during the 2011 Holden Netball Test Series.

"I look at this side and it is youthful and enthusiastic,” Cox said.

“I come here with a 10-year age gap on the next oldest player, so I certainly have the experience.

"I have done the job before so I'm looking forward to it."

Cox is joined by fellow Diamonds players Caitlin Bassett and Susan Fuhrmann as vice-captains.  Defender Andrea Gilmore rounds out the Fever’s leadership group.

The 2012 ANZ Championship kicks off on Saturday 31 March with the Adelaide Thunderbirds hosting the NSW Swifts in the opening game of the season at Netball SA Stadium.
