Australian Netball Diamonds

 

 
Coach: Lisa Alexander

Lisa Alexander is a level 3 coach and boasts an impressive list of coaching credentials. She guided the Melbourne Phoenix to consecutive Commonwealth Bank Trophy titles in 2002-03. She coached the Australian U/21’sin 2006 and was the assistant coach for the World Seven Team in 2009. Lisa was the Adelaide Thunderbirds assistant coach from 2008-2011 and was influential in the team’s 2010 ANZ premiership. Lisa was the apprentice coach in 1994 and is the 14th Diamonds coach in history.

Assistant Coach: Julie Fitzgerald   

Julie Fitzgerald is one of the most well-known coaches in Australian netball. Julie, a level 3 coach, coached the Sydney Swifts to four premierships in the old National League competition (Commonwealth Bank Trophy) from 1997-2007. She coached the NSW Swifts in the ANZ Championship from 2008-2011 and played a major role in the Swifts premiership victory in the inaugural ANZ season. Julie was the apprentice coach of the Australian Diamonds in 1997 and is now the Assistant Coach.  

 Specialist Coach: Nicole Cusack  
A talented goal attack, Nicole Cusack played 52 tests for Australia (1989-98) which included winning a World Championship in 1995 and a Commonwealth Games gold medal in 1998. Since being appointed Australian specialist coach in 2007, Nicole has also been the Australian Institute of Sport scholarship coach in 2008 and 2009, and specialist coach for the 21/U team in 2008 and during the World Youth Netball Championships in 2009.
 
Specialist Coach: Di Honey  

Diane Honey represented Australia from 1985-1988, including the 1987 World Championships. Diane played 17 tests caps in the green and gold and was a player renowned for her great speed and lightening quick hands through the mid court. She is a member of the Netball Victoria Hall of Fame and joins the Diamonds program as a specialist mid court coach.      

Specialist Coach: Michelle Den Dekker
Michelle Den Dekker is the most successful Australian Captain in the sports history. Since making her debut in 1985, Michelle went on to play 84 test caps and is currently 7th in the all time list. She captained Australia on 71 occasions, winning 65 matches with a success rate of 92%. She won two World Championships as captain in 1991 and 1995. Michelle joins the Diamonds program as a specialist defensive coach.    
  
Strength and Conditioning Coach: Dirk Spitz  

Dirk is the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Australian Diamonds. He has extensive experience in chronic rehabilitation, specifically for ACL and shoulder reconstructions. Dirk has worked in a variety of sports including basketball, netball, swimming, rugby league and rugby union and with a number of sports teams and academies including the Queensland Firebirds, Queensland Academy of Sport, the Australian Wallabies, the Queensland Reds and Australian Rugby Union.

Team Manager: Janet Bothwell  

Janet is a level 3 netball coach, former Australian representative and former Netball Australia National Coaching Director and High Performance Manager. Janet has worked closely with the Queensland Firebirds and also has a national “A” grade umpiring badge. Janet has worked with the Australian Commonwealth Games netball team and is currently the Australian Diamonds Team Manager.

Team Manager:
Donna Monteath

  Donna Monteath started working with the Australian 21/U program in 2008 as Team Manager and in 2009 managed the Australian 21/U World Youth Netball Championship winning team. Donna first travelled with the Australian Diamonds in their UK tour earlier this year. Previously Donna worked with the Perth Orioles(2002-2006).
Doctor: Dr Tom Hilton     
 Physiotherapist: Steve Hawkins    

Steve has an extensive history working with a variety of athletes involved in court sports such as netball, basketball and tennis. Steve was involved in research on knee injuries at the University of Melbourne, and has a particular interest in ankle, hand and wrist injuries. Steve has practised as a physiotherapist since 1991 and has been involved with netball through the Netball Victoria state team since 1998. Steve is the physiotherapist for the Australian Diamonds and the Melbourne Vixens.

Physiotherapist: Alanna Antcliff  

 

Alanna supplements her private practice physiotherapy at APA Sports Physiotherapist with her work as a physiotherapist for various State League netball teams and the Australian Diamonds. Alanna has completed her Masters of Sports Physiotherapy and is an accredited APA Sports Physiotherapist.

 

Dietitian: Kerry Leech  

Over the past 5 years, Kerry has divided her professional life between her private practise and the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) where she is a Nutrition Co-ordinator. Kerry consults with a variety of athletes at the QAS, with a particular focus on athletes in swimming, softball and women’s football. She also works with the AIS Squash unit and is an active member of Sports Dieticians Australia and Eat Smart Nutrition Consultants.

Performance Analyst: Tara Handke

 

Tara Handke recently joined the High Performance team as a full time performance analyst. Tara has an honours degree in Human Movement and has worked in skill aquisition at the Australian Institute of Sport where she has worked with a number of different sports including netball and cricket.
