Comments: At 38 Irene van Dyk continues to prove she is still the world’s best goal shooter. Dyk was named Sportswoman of the Year at the 2004 Halberg Awards, was honoured for her services to netball in 2009 with the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list and holds the world record for international caps. The affable shooter played her 100th game for New Zealand last year, which was marked with a 52-36 defeat of Australia. Fittingly she was named player of the match shooting at 92 percent. Her reliable hands, perfect positioning and accuracy, which rarely sees her shoot under 90 percent, make van Dyk a challenge for any opponent. |
