Game Report: Western Australia has defeated Northern Territory, 42-27, in the semi-finals of the 17/U National Netball Championships at the Logan Metro Indoor Sports Centre in Queensland on Tuesday. A goal in the first 20 seconds allowed Western Australia to end the first quarter with a comfortable six-goal lead, despite Northern Territory’s attempts to close the gap midway. A Northern Territory reshuffle in the second quarter by coach Dianne Brown wasn’t sufficient for the team to even up the scoreboard, with Western Australia powering ahead to end the first half at 21-14. Western Australian shooter Kayla Stanton maintained the assault on the Northern Territory scoring 7 goals out of the 12 gained in the third quarter. The Northern Territory’s sharper play saw them advance 9 goals, but still not enough to throw WA, with a score of 32-22. Northern Territory goal attack Deni Tauleilei put in a brave effort opening up space for her team and scoring well during the final quarter. However, Western Australia shooter Kimberley Burton and goal attack Maddison Schultz never slowed through the last quarter bringing the West home with a 10-5 final term. The win will see Western Australia face off against Tasmania in the second round for fifth and sixth place.
